Medical Team for Thiotte, Boyer, and Bois Dioute

Dr. John Devine came with a team of medical workers to once again to help in more remote area of Haiti. The team was able to go to 3 different areas of the country. They worked long hours to see as many patients as they possibly could, not wanting to turn anyone away. There were many that got medical attention that they desperately needed.

Brian Webster organized a medical team in October to go to a remote area of Haiti. We traveled many hours to reach our destination. The conditions were very primative with no comforts of home. They were willing to sacrifice their comfort to help with the medical needs of this community. They were able to help hundreds over the few days that we were there. It was the first time a medical team came to the area and the community was so grateful for the help they received.

Weddings at Acadien

September brought much happiness to 4 couples. The gospel has changed the village at Acadien. After conversion there were several men and women in the church that were very unconfortable with living together as partners and not being legally married. 4 couples decided to have their weddings celebrated together in the church. It was a very joyous occasion for the families and the community.

Trip to Citadel and Grande Riviere du Nord

The boys and I take a break and get away for a few days. We packed up the truck with tents and supplies and camped out. We visited the Citadel which is a famous fortress and visited some friends from the Hope Internation Mission Church at Grande Riviere du Nord.

As Ken Walter visits La Victoire he is reunited with a brother of the Lord. Brother Canon was a young man when they were last saw each other. Each have put on a few years since then.
Brother Ken Walter traveled to Haiti many times earlier in his life and helped on several of the projects at the mission at La Victoire.

August 20th we had our Bible School Graduation. There were 4 men that graduated this year. We were not able to finish the school year in the month of May due to the earthquake with occurred the 12th of January.

Homes for Haiti

God's Missionary Church and Houses of Hope for Haiti are providing homes for earthquake victims. The container arrived in October with materials for 17 homes. There were 10 men that came to help construct the homes.

God's Missionary Church celebrated their 75th Anniversary and I was able to be present for this joyous occasion. Families of the founding leaders were acknowledged, there was a moment of silence in honor of the deceased, and much appreciation was showen for the present leaders and brethren. Jeffrey McDowell was our medicine man at the clinic. He counted out pills and help dispense the medicines. He enjoyed playing soccer with the youth after the clinic was closed in the afternoon.

Our spring revival at Acadien created such an interest in the area that hundreds came. There were those who walked great distances to participate in the event. We couldn't turn them away without something to eat so a meal was prepared. A goat was provided, rice and beans were purchased, and the brethren worked together to see that the multitude was fed.

The Acadien church requested a week of special services. The community and those in the surrounding areas were invited to the event. The church was packed out each evening. There were 19 new converts added to the church.

Although there was disaster in the capital city the countryside continued their activities as normal. The Acadien church is growing steadily and there are frequently those who wish to be baptized. I was asked to take part in the ceremony where 4 brethren were baptized.

Brother and Sister Marcel Jean are so happy to have a new roof on their home. They were praying that the Lord would help them to save enough money to get it done someday. While we were visiting we saw the need and replaced the roof for them. They told me that they don't know how they could ever repay us for helping them.

While several of the boy's were at home for a break I painted the room and laid ceramic tiles. It really needed some freshening up.

While confined to the mission station I was able to finish some projects at the house. The boy's room was the only room that did not have ceramic tiles on the floor and we were able to lay the tiles and finish that project.

There is still many who need water. The city doesn't provide water everyday. There are times the city doesn't supply water for 4 to 5 days. More and more people come to get water at our mission compound. We still supply thousands of gallons of water daily.

This man is a neighbor at our compound in Leogane. He was injured when his house fell on him at the time of the earthquake. He had a head injury and he could not walk. We went to his home to take care of him. There is a picture of Vanessa Thompson dressing his wounds in the January blog. The article was labeled (Vanessa treats a head wound).

The man came to visit us and to thank us for the help that he received. We were so happy to see him doing so well.

There is a high demand for mobile clinics. The team left after eating the noon meal for another wild adventure. The road reminded one of a motorcross race track and we went to a neighborhood of less fortunate people. There were no complaints for the team was eager to help these needy people.

This is a tough case for the doctors. The baby was born the day of the earthquake. She was a twin. The other baby died and she is very ill and very tiny. I trust there is something we can do to save this little one.

The team went to the bus station early this morning to get a bus to the Dominican Republic. They will then get a flight home. The Valentines Baby takes his first breath

The team was distracted this morning by an expecting mother. She was in labour. Breakfast was ready but it would have to wait. Church was in session and there were a few medical workers that would be absent from the services. Our little buddy was born this Valentines Day morning. Baby boy and mother are doing fine. This was a special moment for the medical team. All of them took the opportunity to hold this precious little fellow in their arms.

While going to the airport I was clipped by an Army vehicle. A Humvee came to close and struck the mirror on the driver side. I was surprised and thought he there would be greater damage. The mirror flew about 50 feet and hit the road. I was able to salvage the plastic part and fortunately the larger mirror landed in a grassy area.
